Xbox One console users are reporting that their TV or monitor suddenly has no image with a “No Signal” error message even after the console has fully booted. This problem occurs on the Xbox One, Xbox One S, or Xbox One X.

If your TV screen often goes blank or black, here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve these Xbox One no signal issues and reset the black screen resolution.

Reset your display settings

Here’s how:

If your Xbox One console has a disc, remove it.On the console, press and hold the Xbox button for five seconds to turn off the console.Press and hold the Xbox button and the eject button until you hear a beep to turn the console on. You will immediately hear a beep and a second beep after 10 seconds. The power light blinks before the second beep. Do not release until you hear the second beep.Note. This will start your console in low resolution mode (640 × 480). To reset this setting, go to System>Settings in the guide, select Display and Sound, Video Settings, then TV Resolution. If you need to follow these steps every time you start up, you will need to change the TV connection to HDMI, as shown in step 3 of the next section, “Your screen is blank and you are using AVR in your setup.

Check the HDMI inputs

Many televisions have multiple HDMI connectors for Blu-ray players, game consoles, and other multimedia devices, and it’s easy to mix them up. It can also be easy to accidentally switch to the wrong HDMI channel if you bump or drop your TV remote. Try scrolling through different HDMI sources to see if you’re on the wrong channel now.

Clean the Xbox One console.

On Xbox consoles, dust can collect very quickly near the vents. This can lead to overheating and problems such as the “Signal not detected” error. If you have one, remove the dust with an air gun. A regular vacuum cleaner will also work.

Power Cycle or Steep Booting the Xbox One

Step 1. With the Xbox fully on, press and hold the Xbox button on the console (not the controller) for 10 seconds or until the front light stops flashing.Step 2 After the Xbox is completely turned off, unplug the power cord and wait a full minute before trying to plug it back in and turn it back on.Step 3. Reboot the Xbox One console by pressing the Xbox button.Step 4. When the first Xbox animation screen appears on the TV, make sure Cool Boot is complete.

Launch the Xbox One in low-resolution mode.

You may also see a “No Signal” error on your Xbox One console in a scenario where you connect your console to a TV that doesn’t support the current resolution set for your Xbox console.

If that’s the case, you can solve the problem by forcing your Xbox One console to boot into a low-resolution model.

Fortunately, Microsoft has created an unusual solution for these situations, so you don’t have to blindly try to change them without showing them. On the Xbox One S and Xbox One X, you can force the console to boot at the lowest possible resolution by using a hotkey at startup.

First, press and hold the power button on the console for about 10 seconds or until you hear a beep and the fan stops.Wait about 30 seconds to make sure your system is off. Then press the power button + eject button (on the console) at the same time and hold both until you hear a second beep (after 15-20 seconds).Your console should turn on. If the process was successful, you can tell by the two bars at the bottom and top of the screen (and usually poor picture quality) that your console has started up in low resolution mode). If the process was successful, all you need to do is switch your display to the highest resolution your TV can support for the best picture possible. To do this, press the Xbox button on your gamepad, navigate to the system in the navigation menu that appears, and then click “Settings” in the menu that appears. In the “Settings” menu, select “Screen and Sound” in the left menu, go to the right panel and open the “Video Output” menu. Then in the video output settings, change the display resolution to the maximum resolution acceptable for your TV or monitor. After that, confirm and all will be fine.RECOMMENDED: Click here to troubleshoot Windows errors and optimize system performance
